Plating lines for galvano-plastic manufacturing of battery grids
We have designed production plants to meet the specific needs of individual customers, based on their know-how in the field of electroplating and in the implementation of reel-to-reel processes:
Plant for producing battery grids by electroplating and coating
- Continuous production of structured lead foils with a thickness of around 100 µm
- Coating with lead and lead alloys from lead scrap
- Application of lead-alloy layers achieving high stability thanks to dispersion-hardening
- Formation of intermediate copper layers
- Formation of PbSn layers with excellent corrosion-resistance qualities
This technology, developed by DSL Dresden Material-Innovation GmbH in Dresden, enables production of battery grids with substantially enhanced properties.
Properties:
- Energy density: the increased corrosion resistance makes it possible to reduce the grid thickness and thus the grid weight by at least 20 % while achieving the same service life
- Power density: not just the reduced grid weight, but also the increased conductivity of the grids, in particular those with an intermediate copper layer, increases the power density enormously
- Mass utilization:thanks to the increased conductivity of the grids, the potential and thus the mass utilization are more uniformly distributed over the entire grid area
- Cycle stability: the more favourable potential distribution and improved paste adhesion increase the stability of the plates and reduce sulphation
- Costs and environmental compatibility: costs are substantially lowered by reducing the weight and by the possibility of using production waste, battery waste, skimmings or pig lead instead of high-purity lead in production
