SPOX® Cleaning and surface treatment systems
|
Applications
Deflashing of stamped strips and removal of oil residues left by punching and stamping – all in one single in-line process.
Achievable results
- Removal of metallically joined flitters up to a maximum size of 0.2 mm
- Degreasing of materials with a surface tension of up to 40 mN/m
Advantages of SPOX®-HP SP
- The system uses water only (tap water or de-ionized water) as cleaning agent in a closed circuit, with no chemical additives
- The compact design and construction allows the system to be used in between punching machine and take-up reel, thus requiring no additional processing step or repeated unreeling process
- No special disposal systems for waste water or the like are necessary, either
- The system is mobile, and electricity and pressurized air connections are all that is needed
The process
The SPOX®-HP SP system is based on the application of a high-pressure water jet, without the use of chemical additives. A water jet – optimized and directed by special nozzles – removes flitters, metallic and non-metallic residues as well as grease, solely by its physical action on the surface of the workpiece.
The system automatically removes residues of the cleaning process from the water circuit. Contaminants are removed using a multi-stage filter system. Dispersed oil and grease are removed from the water in a separator.
To prevent water leaking from the system and to enable residue-free drying, the strip is blown dry using compressed air, and the water from this process stage is led back into the system.
The strip is pulled through the machine via an integrated carrier strip drive, and the speed of this process can be automatically synchronized with the speed of the punching machine.

SPOX®-P plasma treatment system operating at atmospheric pressure
|
Applications
Removal of organic contaminants and activation of metal strip and foil surfaces in a through-feed process for the production of microelectronics.
Achievable results
- Improvement of bonding strength
- Improvement of solderability
- Improvement of gluability
- Improvement of the adhesion strength of coatings and injection moulding compounds
Advantages of SPOX®- P:
- Economic plasma treatment without the use of a vacuum, i.e. at atmospheric pressure
- Precision cleaning and conditioning of metal and plastic surfaces
- Suitable for use in "reel-to-reel" production processes
- low thermal influence on the original material
- broad range of fields of application through the use of various reaction gases
- energy-efficient production at high energy density
- compact and mobile, easy to integrate into existing production lines
The process
SPOX®- plasma treatment procedure is based on barrier plasma technology, i.e.:
- Continuous creation of discharge filaments by a high-frequency AC voltage between electrode and workpiece
- Activation of gas molecules and emission of photons (UV radiation) onto the surface of the workpiece
- Induction of plasma-chemical reactions on the surface of the workpiece
- Reaction of radicals (e.g. ozone) and reactive products with contaminants on the surface
- adjustment of the reaction conditions by adding reaction gases, including CO2, Ar/H2 and He/H2 mixtures, N2 and air

SPOX®-HP MR in-line deflashing plants for removing plastic residues after moulding of elements on carrier strips.
|
Applications
Removal (deflashing) of plastic residues from moulded elements (transistors, diodes, integrated circuits) in a continuous-feed process. Alternatively, SPOX®HP MR may also be integrated into the SPOX®HP TPL deflashing system.
Achievable results
- Removal of plastic burrs up to a maximum size of 0.1 mm (depending on the size of the element processed)
- Cleaning efficiency ≥ 99%
Advantages of SPOX®-HP MR:
- High process stability, low maintenance, high efficiency
- Deflashing using water only
- High precision
- No damage to the carrier strip
The process
In order to optimize cleaning results, the strip is pre-treated in a cathodic deflashing system. Subsequently it is fed into the deflashing unit, where it is cleaned with a high-pressure water jet in a feed-through process. Wear-resistant carrier strip guides in the water-jet unit ensure precise positioning and support for the elements to be de-burred.
